Tires can also be used as tire derived fuel, in which the tires are burned to create power. It produces as much energy as oil, 25% more then coal and double the energy or burned wood. They are even used for road building. The tires are used under the road where clay, or other weak soils that cause a week base. Ground rubber can be used for patio decks, running tracks, and it is used to make the squishy black surface on playgrounds. They can also be used as retreads, which are just as safe as a brand new tire, but not many people use them because they believe they are not as safe.
